Lupinacci, Governor Help Long Islanders Prepare For Next Emergency

This past Saturday, Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,WF,I-Huntington Station) joined Gov. Andrew Cuomo and 600 residents from across Suffolk County to take part in the first ever Citizens Preparedness Corps Training Program at Farmingdale State College. The program is part of an ongoing effort to provide citizens with the tools and resources necessary to prepare for emergencies and disasters, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.

“Over the past few years Long Island has faced multiple natural disasters, from Superstorm Sandy to this winter’s extreme cold, that have tested our residents’ resilience,” said Lupinacci. “Local first responders provide a crucial service for our communities, but it’s the responsibility of everyone to know how they can best prepare themselves. Events like the Citizens Preparedness Corps Training Program are a great way to help local residents be ready the next time nature strikes. Whether it’s a hurricane, snow storm, or strong winds, the essentials to preparedness remain the same. I want to thank all our local first responders who assisted in this weekend’s event.”

The training program, along with future ones, was led by the New York National Guard who worked with experts from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services’ Office of Emergency Management and Office of Fire Prevention and Control along with local county emergency management personnel.
