Lion in the Sun: New Management and a New Look for the Huntington Mainstay

In 2002, Melinda Morris bought a vacant shop on a cozy Brooklyn side street and opened Lion in the Sun Paperie of Park Slope. Already an experienced stationer, Melinda grew up lending a hand at the original Long Island location, owned by her parents, Jane and Arnold Greenberg. Jane and Arnold opened the first Lion in the Sun back in 1981, after selling their beloved beach house and using their nest egg to buy a quaint storefront in Huntington Village. Stocked with fine paper products and custom invitations, the shop quickly became a neighborhood staple.

Now, more than thirty years after Jane first opened the doors of Lion in the Sun and eleven years since Melinda brought the family business to Brooklyn, the original Long Island shop is ready to begin a new chapter, marked by new management and a brand new look. “I’m so happy to share that Melinda and her husband, Dave, have just taken over management of the Long Island location. I love what they’ve done with the Park Slope store, and I’m looking forward to working with them to bring something new to our Huntington shop,” says Jane. “We’ll be making some major changes this summer, with the ultimate goal of really meeting the needs of the community.”

While the Huntington shop is no stranger to change -- in fact, both locations have grown and evolved over the years alongside their surrounding neighborhoods -- the mission behind the businesses has always remained exactly the same. “We want to be there to lend meaningful experience and guidance, to create keepsakes and memories, and to help you celebrate your happiest occasions. Believe it or not, we now have clients coming in for wedding invitations whose birth announcements we did 25 years ago. That’s why I love this business!” says Melinda. “I can’t wait to start this exciting new phase back in Huntington.”
