Target Taking Root on Jericho Turnpike

Work crews preparing 17-acre site for new store.

Significant work is underway on the 17-acre site that will eventually be home to a new Target store on Jericho Turnpike.

The one-acre store will take up more than 150,000 square feet on the former Huntington Townhouse site.

On Friday, work crews were busy on the wall at the rear of the property that will consist of irrigated landscaping, the town Planning Department said. Site plans show considerable landscaping and a sidewalk between the road and the building, set back about 45 feet. The beginnings of a structure are visible from Jericho Turnpike.

Spokeswomen for the retail giant have declined requests for information about a timetable for completing the work or how many people it expects to employ.

Lowe's, which had planned to build on the site, pulled back on plans in November 2011.

This is great news for Kmart shoppers!

This is great news since Walt Whitman SHOPS doesn't relate to most of the demographic of Huntington/Huntington Station and surroundings towns.

Target is by far the best of the "big stores". Looking forward to it and I hope they include a produce/frozen/meat section.

"The beginnings of a structure are visible from Jericho Turnpike." - isn't the structure what Lowe's started before abandoning the site?
Pam Robinson (Editor) January 5, 2013 at 03:11 pm
Yes, it is primarily what Lowe's started though there is work going on right at the structure.

While I am happy something if finally happening on the site, I question all the sand that is being mined against the steep slope legislation we have in Huntington. or has no one in code enforcement noticed?
Target is a good choice for the location, however. I can think of worse big box store there. I also suspect that once it is open for business, the K Mart at Big H will close.....

No question K-Mart will close-there is no comparison.

Are you saying that gangs only shop at Target?

Glad it's going to open. We currently drive to Target in Farmingdale for most of the items they sell.

Usually cats stay within a few houses of home Sometimes they just hunker down under a neighbor'sRead More shed or deck. He is more likely to come to you at night when there aren't as many lawn mower sounds. Walk around with a can of the stinkiest cat food that you can find. Call to him, and listen for a response. He may answer you with soft meows. Make a trail of stinky cat food to your door and leave the can at the door overnight. Hang up signs with a photo in the neighborhood. Go door to door and tell neighbors to call you if they see him. Kids playing, and dog walkers might spot him. Once you have an idea, of where he is, you can use a have a heart trap to catch him, if he won't come to you. Some cats get so scared when they get out, that they don't recognize their humans. We have had cats disappear for months, before trapping them.

We've checked with authorities on this and they say there were no major injuries. While we try toRead More get to every serious accident, we're not going to be able to cover everything that happens 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
