Plenty Of Selection at Yogurt Factory

The new yogurt shop lets customers build their own deserts on New York Avenue.

For the pickiest of customers, even the most seasoned of waitstaff, cooks and servers can find difficulty pleasing all comers — but the newly-opened Yogurt Factory in Huntington might just change all that.

Allowing frozen yogurt and smoothie lovers to build their own favorites, employees at the New York Avenue establishment said they are happy to be up and running.

"We opened in Huntington because it's a great location, and there's a lot going on," said Cindy Joyce, a store employee and sister to the store's co-owner.

Every month brings new flavor selections including an ongoing pumpkin special, activia yogurt, whey protein shakes, non-dairy non-fat selections and sugar-free choices, according to Joyce. A suggestion list is offered as well.

With the Paramount Theater a few doors down, the store gives dollar discounts with the presentation of ticket stubs.

Factory employee Stephanie Sorrentino, a student at Suffolk Community College, shared her favorite selection, the red velvet flavored yogurt with cookie sprinkles.

"It's very cool how customers come up with whatever they want, you see some really cool selections," said Sorrentino.

Jane Meisse, a regular at the store since it opened two months ago, explained what brings her in.

"Whenever my grandson gets off the bus, he decides where we go — and ever since he's been here, he loves coming to get yogurt," said Meisse.

Additionally, the Factory serves Keurig-brewed coffees for $1.50 and offers up a "punchcard" system with a $4 discount after seven purchases.
