Old Hands Take Reins at Chamber

Two former chairmen will run the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce, stepping back to fill the void left by the death of Larry Kushnick.

The return of James V. Kelly and Robert Bontempi was announced Tuesday at a chamber meeting that also featured a discussion with most of the members of the Town Board.

Kushnick, who died June 3, had become chairman of the board at the chamber just two weeks earlier. Kelly served as chairman until 2009, when Bontempi took over. He served until Kushnick's elevation to the job.

Members of the Town Board discussed Huntington Station, Avalon Bay, environmental matters, sewage and other matters.

The chamber also heard from Suffolk Police Officer Mike O'Neill who talked about anti-crime efforts.
