Mall Plans New 9/11 Tribute

Statue of poet replaces quotes from his work at Walt Whitman Shops.

The expansion and upgrade of Walt Whitman Shops saw the addition of a sculpture of the poet Walt Whitman but the loss of wall quotes from his famous Leaves of Grass.

The quotes appeared on the long gray wall facing out onto Route 100, replaced by new stores and restaurants.

“Our team worked in close coordination with the Walt Whitman Birthplace to come up with an appropriate recognition for the property’s namesake," Debby Weber, general manager for Walt Whitman Shops,  said. "The final result is a magnificent bronze statue of Walt Whitman, created by world renowned artist John Giannotti, which stands as the centerpiece of the new courtyard/main entrance flanked by Brooks Brothers and Brio Tuscan Grille. Center Court has some additional treatment that incorporates snippets from Walt Whitman’s poetry as well.”

We are  is currently in discussion on a number of options and look forward to sharing details of what will ultimately be created once a decision is made.”
