Huntington Welcomes Islanders Store

Pro Shop opens Sunday at Dix Hills Ice Rink for NHL team.

The New York Islanders Pro Shop is open for business at the Dix Hills Ice Rink.

Islanders' defenseman Travis Hamonic and left wing Matt Martin, as well as members of the Ice Girls, joined fans and shoppers at the grand opening of the store on Oct. 30, in which skaters got the the opportunity to learn from the pros in a special hockey clinic. Afterward, the players signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans.

Under the contract with the town, the Islanders will run regular clinics and autograph sessions for their Huntington fans.

The pro shop, which originates from the Islanders’ Syosset practice rink, is the team’s second store and features the NHL merchandise, along with hockey and figure skating equipment for all levels.

The opening of the shop is the first time the Islanders have a direct link to Suffolk County, and is already opening doors for the team to take part in the  community.

Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone and Town Board members Susan Berland and Glenda Jackson joined the players in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to kick off a five-year contract.
