'Huntington Has Taste' Fundraiser Set for June 8

Fashion and food extravaganza to benefit Island Harvest.

Prime Restaurant will host the third annual 'Huntington Has Taste: A Night of Fashion, Food, & Fun' on Tuesday, June 8 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. For those wishing to preview the latest trends in women and children's spring and summer fashions, while taking in the ambiance of this elegant Huntington eatery, the event promises to be one of this season's hottest tickets.

According to Genevieve Sloup, President of RSVP Events NY, apparel, swimwear, and accessories from Huntington and Northport's best loved boutiques— The Pink Link, Rexer-Parkes, Francine's Fashion Boutique, Sophi Blu, and Veronica Rayne— will be featured in a runway fashion show. Guests will enjoy hors d'oeuvres and a chef station dockside in full view of a glorious sunset over Huntington Harbor while benefiting the best of causes.

"This year, all proceeds from the raffle, silent auction and program sales, as well as a portion of the ticket sales, will be donated to Island Harvest," Sloup said, explaining that, as Long Island's largest hunger relief organization, "Island Harvest supplies hundreds of community-based nonprofit organizations with critical food support in an effort to stem the advancing tide of hunger in our communities."

Models will be prepared for the limelight courtesy of Spa Adriana, whose new Moroccan Spice beauty collection promises to provide that vibrant, sun-kissed summer look.

"Ripe plums blush a healthy cheek; pomegranates stain the lips with rich color and a juicy shine," said Adriana Vater, co-founder/creative director of the award-winning spa that is celebrating its 25th anniversary in Huntington.

For years, The Pink Link, located on New York Ave. in Huntington, has been the place to go for fabulously chic Lilly Pulitzer sports and dress wear. The newest line, which captures the essence of summer with its happy palette of pinks, greens, turquoises and yellows, will be complimented by coordinated handbags and casual jewelry.

The Northport boutique Sophi Blu has been raising the bar for children's fashion since it opened last August.

According to owner Jacqui Maggio, her shop features Catimini, Misha Lulu, Isabel Garreton and other hard-to-find European designers as well as hip street wear from Charlie Rocket and Monster Republic. Nautical colors ,with a dash of yellow and purple, and mixing patterns, like stripes and plaids, are all the rage this season, she said.

Guests will delight as models, ranging in age from 18 months to 6 years, promenade down the runway, in the best that Sophi Blu has to offer.

Rexer-Parkes, a family-owned business whose roots run deep has long been a Huntington fashion mainstay.

"It's all about taste, and we carry it all, " Francine Rexer said of her hand-selected collection which ranges from easy, breezy summer wear to glamorous evening ensembles.

"We do all the buying ourselves," Rexer said of her jaunts to New York and Paris that have kept three generations of customers at the height of fashion for 30 years.

Guests can expect to see the designs by Diane Von Furstenberg, Milly and Isabel Marant, she said, adding that warm colors and bold accessories are in and she'll be featuring the season's hottest mix of geometric prints, playful Parisian stripes, and tribal-inspired looks.

Francine's Fashion Boutique will be participating in the event for the second year, owner Francine Federici said.

The shop will be drawing from its enticing selection of casual to eveningwear and guests can look forward to flirty, 'out on the town' sundresses and summer party dresses, with a sampling of leggings paired with cute tops or straight leg jean looks thrown in for fun.

If a mélange of well-known labels and edgy, urban, one-of-a-kind offerings from independent designers sets your heart racing, then Veronica Rayne Boutique in Northport will deliver an eye-opening epiphany.

"It's a well-edited collection of the season's best pieces at all price points," Carlene Afetian said of her eclectic stock of cool, city-chic ensembles and accessories that will be modeled.

Those who purchase advance tickets for $45, online at www.rsvpeventsny.com or at any of the participating boutiques, will be treated to gift bags valued at over $150. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $60. Prime Restaurant is located at 117 New York Ave., Huntington Village. The rain date for the event is June 15.
