High-Tech Hub Set for Main Street

Site will help startup tech firms get launched.

Another high-tech operation is coming to Huntington Village.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced plans Thursday for the high-tech accelerator hub,  designed to help startup tech firms launch their businesses. It will take 8,552 square feet of space on the second floor of 315 Main St. It is expected to open in November.

"Downtowns across Suffolk County are the perfect location for high tech start-ups,” said Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone. “Huntington Village is the ideal place for our County’s new tech accelerator creating dozens of high paying jobs for our innovation economy.”

Bellone frequently talks about high-tech and the need for good locations to attract workers. He cites Long Island's public transportation and housing as difficulties that need to be overcome.

"This will give Huntington a lot of attention," Bellone said. "This is just right, close to the city, excellent schools. The message is we will provide you with the tools that you need. We will be a leader."

The space is established by the founders of tech start-up GroupGifting.com under their organization NuClique LLC.

"One of the most important things to the future of Suffolk County is creating an environment where new businesses can establish their roots and thrive,” said Suffolk County Legislator William Spencer. “Welcoming the tech accelerator space into Huntington Village is laying down the groundwork for further development and will bring similar businesses into the area.”

The Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency provided property tax abatements and sales tax incentives of over $100,000 for a five-year period.

"This is a no-brainer for Huntington," said Peter Goldsmith, the president of  LISTNet, the Long Island Software and Technology Network.

Work Market set up shop on Wall Street last September and founder Jeff Leventhal was on hand Thursday to applaud the new hub.
