Bootcamp Marathon to Benefit Burn Center Fund

Huntington center sponsors day-long fundraiser for firefighters.

The Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center Fund will be the beneficiary of all-day bootcamp marathon Sunday in Huntington.

Fit Body Bootcamp is hosting the event. For $25 at the door, people can come and go to the classes throughout the day. There will also be raffles for gift certificates donated by local businesses.

All of the proceeds will be donated to the Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center Fund.  From 9 am until 4 pm, Fit Body will be holding a the Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center Fund. The Burn Center Fund was created to support the burn center at Stony Brook University Hospital, which is where any volunteer who gets burned is treated.

“Being a firefighter and being physically fit goes hand in hand,” said Chris Ingwersen, chief at the Cold Spring Harbor Volunteer Fire Department. “It seemed like a great cause to get involved in.” Ingwersen worked with Fit Body owner Kathleen Tafti and her husband to put the event together.

Members of the Huntington Township’s EMS systems and members from the fire department second battalion have said they will be attending the event.

The center is also having its official grand opening Sunday. “We opened July 14 and wanted a grand opening,” said Kathleen Tafti. “We thought it would be great to be able to do something for a cause. Anything monetary is going to the Burn Center.”
