This Weekend: Event Calendar Heats Up

Farmers Market underway, restaurant week begins, Bennardo to be introduced and gay pride parade scheduled.

1. Huntington Lighthouse Restaurant Week Begins Saturday: The inaugural Huntington Lighthouse Restaurant Week begins Saturday. Dine at some of Huntington’s finest restaurants and . Participating restaurants are generously donating a portion of their proceeds to the Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society. The week-long celebration culminates with the 100 year anninversary of the lighthouse, June 16. Participating Restaurants

2. Meet the New Superintendent: A reception will be held to officially welcome David P. Bennardo to the South Huntington community Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the South cafeteria. The event is open to the public. 

3. Gay Pride Parade: The Long Island Pride Parade will be held along Main Street in Huntington Village on Saturday. The parade starts at 1 p.m. and begins along New York Avenue and ends at the Heckscher Park entrance. The parade draws more than 5,000 spectators, making it one of the largest GLBT parades outside of New York City. New this year: a Gay Pride festival in Heckscher Park.

4. Juried Art Exhibit for High School StudentsGallery 425 at The Village Artist will kick off its first art exhibit for students comrised of works from area students. First place and honorable mention winners will be named in three categories: drawing, painting and photography. The top three winners in each category will be awarded scholarships to The Village Artist Fine Arts School. The opening reception and award presentation takes place Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The exhibit runs through Aug. 5.

5. Huntington Village Farmers Market: Now running each Sunday through Nov. 18 from 7 a.m. until noon. Pick from a variety of vegetables, fruits, baked goods and more at the annual . Located at the intersection of Main Street Rt. 25A in Huntington. More Info
