Empty in Huntington: Former Auto Dealership Showroom

What do you think should go here?

Walk down Main Street or drive down Route 110 in Huntington Station and you will notice some vacant storefronts adorned with "For Rent" signs, a possible indication of the hard times the area — and country — are facing.

The Town of Huntington hasembarked on a  to spark economic growth in the area and fill empty sites with businesses and housing.

Huntington Patch will spotlight empty properties to foster discussion in the community on what can, should and could be done to rehab abandoned places.

This week's property is a vacated space at the corner of Jericho Turnpike and West Hills Road in South Huntington. The building formerly housed a Tom Rice Buick-Pontiac GMC showroom.

Any word on when the Mazda dealership on Jericho is opening?

This stretch of Jericho Turnpike used to be a mecca for car buyers. Are the days of walking up and riding off in a new car gone or is something else at work?

A replacement Barnes and Noble would be nice someplace in town...

Since it was a car dearer, maybe INFINITI could tear it down and rebuild. It's the only luxury brand I can think of not in Huntington. Oh wait I guess Lexus - but I prefer Infinti ;)

Oh wait...what I do I have to do to lure a CHICK-FIL-A to Long Island? This would be a great spot.

Such a nice building, but such a bad corner. I remember when it was the lighting store, not sure if that was before or after the car delaer.

Since Barnes and Noble may be on its' last legs, that isn't going to happen.

It's a sign of what has happened to our economy, and Huntington is not immune. I hope something productive will go in there..but it's a bit large for a Chick-Fil-A. lol. But you gotta like their chicken and in a smaller place...they would do well.

A Bendes dealer would fit well.
