Downtown Farmingdale Open for Business

Lights back on; merchants say come on over and have a hot meal.

Downtown Farmingdale is back in business Thursday.

Power was restored to most of the downtown area on Wednesday and local merchants are back up and running.

"We have power and are open for business," said Krista Guterman, the owner of Wings over Farmingdale. "We are so grateful that we got our power back yesterday and are able to serve people."

Guterman reported that most of Main Street is up and running and wanted to pass the word that local families without power can get hot food and supplies downtown.

Other signs of recovery are everywhere. Farmingdale appears to have been spared the full wrath of Hurricane Sandy. Power is coming back all over the community and limited Long Island Rail Road Service resumes today.

Farmingdale schools are closed Thursday and Friday.

All main roads are passable. LIPA crews are continuing to repair outages.
