Black Lantern Remains Shuttered

Has Black Lantern gone ghost? The popular Wall Street nightclub has yet to reopen after a water main burst in late January and the building was condemned by the town fire marshal.

Pipes in the building, located in the historic firehouse at 10 Wall St., burst on two separate occasions, said town spokesperson AJ Carter. Water was disconnected from the building and the power supply shut off as a result of the break.

The Black Lantern would have to fix the water main and provide an underwriter's certificate to the town that power was restored in order to resume operations, said Town Representative AJ Carter.

A sign from Black Lantern management pasted on their front window says that they are working hard and fast to ensure that everything is fixed and approved, but the town says they haven't heard a peep.

James and Jerry Sardelli, graduates of Huntington High School, opened the Black Lantern in 2010 as a high-concept sushi bar and lounge. It received praise from critics and club-goers for its Manhattanesque feel, notable DJs, and organic menu selections. On the down side, it was charged with multiple counts of serving liquor to minors.

James Sardelli appears to be involved in a new electronic party called Boutique hosted at Vitae on 54 New Street in February and early March, although the event is not included in Vitae's current online calendar.
