Best Market to Move Into Waldbaum's Space

New supermarket expected to open by May.

The vacant Waldbaum's store in Huntington Station will reopen as a Best Market in May.

Jonathan Sender, spokesman for the Best Yet Market chain, said, "We're definitely going to refresh" the Turnpike Plaza store, which Waldbaum's occupied for about 40 years. "We’re all about fresh, from delis to fresh cuts of  meat, and bakeries. We’re a full-service market, with dairy and frozen items, and bring great values."

"All our stores are growing rapidly," he said."We're looking for a really good workforce. We have job fairs every Wednesday" at its corporate headquarters in Bethpage. He said the chain is looking to expand further on Long Island, and is also moving into a vacant Waldbaum's in Patchogue.

The Huntington Station store closed the first week of March. In recent weeks, workers have been renovating the space.

Best Yet is rebranding itself as Best Market.

Meh- color me unexcited. I was hoping for a Shoprite, Aldi or better yet a Wegmans. The East Northport store is 5 minutes from this location. I don't see the point.

I, for one, am very happy to see the arrival of Best Market! I've been complaining about this particular Waldbaum's for almost 40 years (I live very close by), because the store always looked dirty, there were never enough open registers, and they did not treat their employees very well. I'm hoping Best Market will do their best bring a much needed improvement to this site.

Why Shoprite when we have Stop and Shop less than 2 minutes away..Best Yet will be a great addition to the neighborhood....

I don't care which Supermarket comes in - I am just relieved this location will not be vacant for long.

JT, have you seen the price of a gallon of gas? Five minutes?? I think not. I live a few blocks from this location and it takes at least 15 to 20 minutes to drive to the location on Larkfield road. I'm glad to see the space being filled at all in this economy. The parking lots here and where the Toys R Us was are totally empty now. So sad to see after living in this area for over twenty years.

Color me happy! I love Best in E. Npt but it is out of the way and I don't get there as often as I'd like.

Well they opened today. I walked in and thought I was in the old dirty, tired Waldbaums! BLAH! The AC was either not working or they were being cheap. Probably the only food store I've ever been in that was warm! Same old ugly shelves, freezers, etc. I can't tell you how many times those things broke and the food went bad. Yuck! They hardly updated anything! Let's see how long it lasts! I am so disappointed because I like the one in East Northport.

I went today and thought it was OK. Very warm like the others have said but I do love Best Yet and appreciate their prices. I am very happy about this supermarket being so close because the one in Northport was always a hike.

Update - Visited again and seems to be improving although the outdated feel is still there. I'll probably only be buying the sale items as some of the others are overpriced. Beats having to drive further for that last minute ingredient for supper! lol
