75,000 Huntington Customers Without Power

LIPA identifies widespread outages around town.

More than 75,000 customers in the Town of Huntington are without power, the Long Island Power Authority said Wednesday.

Crews from LIPA and other utilities were at work Wednesday morning. A large crew from Intren, in Union, Ill., used the parking lot at Whitman High School to organize and move out onto the roads.

A LIPA crew was busy Wednesday morning removing a transformer that had crashed onto a westbound lane on Jericho Turnpike in Elwood.

Many streets, though, continue to be blocked by trees that have fallen and pulled down electric wires in the process. Few of those fallen trees on side streets seem to have been tackled by work crews yet.
