55,000 Still Without Power in Huntington

Outages around town but some service is restored.

The Long Island Power Authority said Thursday that as of 9:30 a.m., more than 55,000 Town of Huntington residents are still without power.

The outages continue to be widespread, with large numbers of users in some areas, such as West Hills, particularly hard hit. Other areas, such as Greenlawn and Halesite, according to LIPA, lost power but were not hit proportionally as hard.

Service was restored to much of the downtown business area Wednesday night, though many residential areas in the village and elsewhere are still without part.

Traffic began picking up on Jericho Turnpike Wednesday night as some light signals were restored at key intersections.

Note: The customer figure is not the same as people affected. The figure might actually represent several people in a family listed as one customer.
