55,000 Still Without Power in Huntington

Outages around town but some service is restored.

The Long Island Power Authority said Thursday that as of 9:30 a.m., more than 55,000 Town of Huntington residents are still without power.

The outages continue to be widespread, with large numbers of users in some areas, such as West Hills, particularly hard hit. Other areas, such as Greenlawn and Halesite, according to LIPA, lost power but were not hit proportionally as hard.

Service was restored to much of the downtown business area Wednesday night, though many residential areas in the village and elsewhere are still without part.

Traffic began picking up on Jericho Turnpike Wednesday night as some light signals were restored at key intersections.

Note: The customer figure is not the same as people affected. The figure might actually represent several people in a family listed as one customer.

All the money it cost to fix all this after storms needs to put into putting all these powerlines underground an step into the modern times..This is craziness to still have all these powerlines still above ground..

I was very frustrated last night as what appeared to be Cuba Hill Road, Clay Pitts, Broadway-Greenlawn and Elwood Road had power. I live near TJL in Greenlawn just south of Pulaski and didn't have power but it finally came up at 11am this morning.

South Huntington area. I've had no power since the storm now and its been pretty rough. No hot water no heating no hot food no electronics nothing. Sleeping in the freezing nights is pretty bad. I know other places got hit harder than us and Lila is "trying " but this is getting pretty bad. I'm typing this from my phone which we are charging by car.

funny there is power to my FIOS box in back of my house but no power from LIPA, maybe LIPA can learn a few things from Verizon.
