This Weekend: Zombies, Flamenco and Folk Music

Busy weekend with lots of choices in Huntington.

The Huntington summer arts festival is in full swing, meaning there's a busy lineup and a great variety of fun to be had.
Sol y Sombra will take the Rainbow Chapin stage at Heckscher Park at 8:30 Friday night, performing tangos, mariachi and flamencos.

On Saturday, as music fills the air from noon until late in the evening, zombies could be skulking around the periphery of the park. The eighth annual Huntington Folk Festival will kick off Saturday's music at noon and run until late evening.  Spuyten Duyvil will top the evening's lineup while AcousticMusicScene.com and Acoustic Live! in New York City and Beyond will host unplugged showcases and song swaps during the afternoon. See the full schedule. The event is free.

While the music is sounding, zombies are crawling. The Sparkboom Deadwalk will form up at Escape Pod Comics at 302 Main St. at 8:30 p.m. and head out for a walk around town before arriving at the Huntington Arts Council to watch episodes of the Ghouligans. From there, they'll go to the Cinema Arts Centre to watch  Dawn of the Dead '04 & Zombieland at 10:30 p.m. So use your brain and be careful.

If those options aren't of interest, try helping your neighbors by donating blood at the Greenlawn Fire Department at 23 Boulevard Ave. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You could win two tickets to the Super Bowl if you do.

On Sunday, head out to Kings Park for the Bark n' Meow Adoption Luau to support the League for Animal Protection of Huntington. Lindsey’s Groom Room, located at 143 Main St., Kings Park will host the event, featuring food, music and the chance to adopt a pet, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
