Playoffs: St. Anthony's Softball and Girls Lacrosse

5 things you need to know for May 24

1. St. Anthony's softball playoff action: The  will face  (11-8) today at Hofstra University's softball field in a Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA semifinal at 3:30 p.m. The winner will face Kellenberg immediately afterward in the championship game. Whoever advances would have to beat undefeated Kellenberg (19-0) twice to claim the league title.

2. Girls lacrosse playoffs: St. Anthony's takes on Sacred Heart. Top-seeded  (16-2 overall) girls lacrosse advances to the Nassau-Suffolk CHSAA title game and will face No. 2 Sacred Heart Academy Tuesday 5 p.m. at C.W. Post,  720 Northern Blvd., Greenvale, at 5 p.m.

3. Jazz and books: The Long Island Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Mike Ficco, will perform at 7:30 p.m. the Barnes & Noble in Huntington Station,  380 Walt Whitman Rd.

4. Whitman track: Whitman boys track travels to Connetquot High School for the first day of division championships. The meet begins at 3 p.m. at 190 7h St., Bohemia. Day 2 of the Connetquot competition is on May 25.

5. Brooklyn Bridge anniversary: On this day in 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge opened to traffic. Originally referred to as the New York and Brooklyn Bridge, it was the longest suspension bridge of its kind in the world at the time.
