Peter Yarrow Holiday Concert, Long Island Fight for Charity

Nov. 22: Five Things You Need to Know Today.

1. Folk singer Peter Yarrow will be performing a free holiday concert at  on Monday in celebration of a new book and narrative CD version of "The Night Before Christmas" presented by folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary. This marks the last project the group worked on together before Mary Travers' death in 2009. Yarrow will sign copies of the book after the 7 pm performance.

2. needs volunteers to work in pairs delivering midday meals to shut-ins for two hours, once a week. Substitute drivers are also needed to work on occasion. Nurses are needed to volunteer to screen potential clients. Schedules are flexible. Call 631-271-5150 between 9 am- 2 pm to find out more.

3. The Long Island Fight for Charity takes place Monday at the Huntington Hilton. This annual boxing event raises money for local charities. Cocktails and restaurant tastings begin at 5 pm, followed by the boxing matches at 6:30 pm. Call for more information 516-870-1583.

4. Members of Long Island Food Not Bombs  will meet at the at 9 tonight for a Dumpster Dive/Scavenger Hunt. The public is welcome.

5. Take in a foreign-language film every Monday at 1 pm at the . The current feature is "The Golden Door," a Venice Film Festival Best Film Award winner. Rated PG-13, this modern fable captures the spirit of the immigrant experience as one family sheds the comfort of the Old World for the opportunities of the New.
