The opening reception for Two Brothers, Two Views, the new Main Street Petite Gallery exhibit at the Huntington Arts Council space on Main Street, is set for 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23.
Two brothers, Charles Blake and Robert Blake, who grew up in the same home and widely diverged over their lives come together in this dynamic exhibition. Once more, they share a common space.
Charles Blake's paintings and three-dimensional work has evolved. Initially his works were representative of family members. The theme at present is the utilitarian workman's screw zoomed in so large that it is simply swirls of color, or, at times, more definitive image. This is pop art with a surrealistic bend.
Robert Blake's work has a very different sensibility. He incorporates colors, sounds, eras and conflicts into his paintings. "Poland" was done shortly after a visit to Auschwitz/Birkenau is empty of color but the thick brush strokes protrude like rail ties while the suggestion of the demise of humanity is clear.
The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
