Poetry Reading at Whitman Birthplace

Contributors to the Oberon Poetry Magazine will read selections from 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, in the Interpretive Center at the Walt Whitman Birthplace.

The magazine has sponsored a yearly competition for a $1,000 first prize. Advertised in Poets & Writers Magazine, submissions have come from across the United States and internationally. Vince Clemente, English professor emeritus at SUNY Stony Brook, has called it "a remarkable anthology of what is best in contemporary poetry." Every issue is illustrated by a visual artist and contains selected translations.

The editor, Clair Nicolas White, managing editor Jan La Roche, and various contributors will read from Oberon Magazine's eight issues. The rules for submission to the next issue (deadline April 15, 2011) also will be explained at the event.
