Hey Kids: Explore the Galaxy or Meet an Egyptian Mummy
Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium is Open Every Day during Spring Break
When school’s out for the April 18-25 spring break, there’s a lot for kids to do at the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum.
Workshops are planned for pre-school and elementary-school students. The planetarium has an updated schedule of shows. Plus, there are the Vanderbilt delights of visiting shrunken heads, large insects and undersea creatures, and meeting an Egyptian mummy or a 32-foot whale shark. (Details below.)

Vanderbilt spring-break schedule
From Monday, April 18, through Saturday, April 23, the museum will be open 11 to 5, as well as on Monday, April 25. On Easter Sunday, April 24, the museum will be closed. The planetarium will be open Friday, April 22, with shows at 8, 9 and 10 p.m. and on Saturday,April 23, with shows hourly from 11 to 4 and 7 to 10.

In the creative workshops for young children, kids explore the Museum’s collections with an educator and create something special to celebrate spring:
Elementary-grade workshops
Registration is required for all of these drop-off workshops. Children are asked to bring a bag lunch. To register or to get more information, call (631) 854-5539. Members receive a 10% discount.
• Monday, April 18: Kachina, grades 1-3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fee: $35 per child.
• Wednesday, April 20: Sundial, grades 3-5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fee: $35 per child.
• Friday, April 22: Madeira Mosaic, grades 1-5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fee: $35 per child.
Pre-K and kindergarten Workshops
For children ages 3 through 5 with one adult
• Tuesday, April 19: Butterfly Windsock, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Fee: $35 per child. Participants will explore the museum’s insect collection gallery and create something unique to celebrate spring.
• Thursday, April 21: Birdhouse, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fee: $20 per child, per workshop
Museum policy: Refunds will be given to cancellations made up to 14 days before the start of a workshop. The museum reserves the right to cancel any workshop that does not meet minimum enrollment requirements.
