Chamber Music Concert

Tonight's chamber music concert is an opportunity for small ensembles at different levels to play for each other and for the audience to appreciate some outstanding performances.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 7:15 p.m. in the large group instruction room, as that building's auditorium is formally known.

"Most of these ensembles are playing these pieces for NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) adjudication on May 6, so the concert also serves as a practice run for them, prior to playing for a judge and receiving a rating," said Joan R. Fretz, district director of fine and performing arts.

Chamber music typically includes only one player on each part, so each student has significant individual responsibility to maintain their part and blend their style of playing with the others in the group. "There is no conductor for a chamber ensemble, so typically the lead player in the group has to provide a gesture to indicate the tempo, start and end of the piece," Ms. Fretz said.

"Audience members will not be disappointed when they hear these young musicians perform," Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello said.
