THE LAST STARFIGHTER
and
NIGHT OF THE COMET

with Special Guest Stars Catherine Mary Stewart and Lance Guest

Nick Castle’s memorable 1984 film “The Last Starfighter,” an unmistakable reaction to Disney’s success with the 1982 “Tron,” is a whimsical, high-spirited tale of an ambitious teenage boy, who while playing an ordinary video arcade game, is unsuspectingly recruited to be a starfighter pilot in an interstellar conflict. Highlighted by an astonishing 27 minutes of state of the art animation (for 1984) created on a Cray X-MP supercomputer, and starring Lance Guest, Catherine Mary Stewart, Robert Preston and Dan O’Herlihy, “The Last Starfighter” is a nostalgic trip back to the innocence of 1980s science-fiction.

As Regina, Catherine Mary Stewart plays a valley girl who suddenly has more to deal with than fashion trends in Thom Eberhardt’s post-apocalyptic fan favorite, ”Night of the Comet.” A comet, which has not swung by Earth in 65 million years, is about to make a reappearance, and the world is partying like it is 1984. Only problem is, the morning after, most everyone unprotected by a fallout shelter, is gone; and, there are also zombies stumbling about, just to keep things jumping. Okay, so “Night of the Comet” is a bit short on science, but it’s a helluva fun romp as Regina and her cheerleader sister, Samantha (Kelli Maroney), try and make the best of a bad situation; doing a little shopping, man-hunting, and zombie killing. After all, what’s a valley girl to do? The film co-stars “Star Trek Voyager’s” Robert Beltran, and indie icon Mary Woronov (“Rock ‘n’ Roll High School”).
