The Arena Players Repertory Theatre will open its Fall 2012-Winter 2013 season on October 5 with John Patrick Shanley’s comedy-drama Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. Performances are given in the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum’s Carriage House Theatre on Friday and Saturday at 8:00 and Sunday at 3:00.

A regional theatre success, the play was later transferred to Broadway for an extended run. It combines the warmth and charm of On Golden Pond with almost as many plot twists as Death Trap.

A touching, funny and warm-hearted play about the hilarious adventures of two lovable sisters who impersonate begging nuns in order to put their niece through art school. All this is complicated by a burglar that makes off with the nuns’ ill-gotten gains and by a suspicious policeman who has followed them home. The show becomes a larceny for laughter as the cheaters start cheating the cheaters.
