5 Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 15

1. Brush up on your cooking skills in time for the holidays at the "American Holiday Foods" cooking class tonight at the in Huntington Station.  Chef Charlie Walsh will be there with dishes for an all-American holiday feast. There is a $7 fee which includes recipes and tasting samples. Call the library to register, 631-549-4411.

2. Today, and for the rest of November, the office of is encouraging members of the Huntington community to join in a kid-focused food drive to support the Huntington Community Food Council. This bi-annual food drive focuses on the special nutritional needs of children. Kid friendly food includes juice boxes, cookies, kids breakfast and granola bars, fruit cups, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, whole grain crackers, breakfast cereals and other non-perishable food items.  Donations can be brought to the office, located at 165 Main St., between the hours of 10 am - 5pm. 3. Tonight at 7 pm, the  will host "Writing Creatively for Magazines" with William McGee, adjunct associate professor of creative writing at Hofstra University. This free class is designed to assist students who would like to write creatively for magazines. The emphasis will be on creative forms of nonfiction and will examine how magazine writers can use the tools of fiction to create nonfiction. Call the Book Revue for more information 631-271-1442.

4. Exercise is good for you at every age, and the makes it easy for senior women to keep feeling good about themselves by sticking with a regular exercise program. 5. Meet acclaimed Tony-nominated playwright and star, Charles Busch at the tonight at 6:45 pm at an interview and screening of his hilarious satirical film "Die Mommy Die" for which he won the coveted Sundance Best Performance Award. His new play, "The Divine Sister" playing at the SoHo Playhouse, is the comic hit of the season. Tickets are $20 or $15 for members and includes a reception and interview.
