The Old Town Green Series - Town Green

An artistic and photographic perspective of Huntington on Huntington Patch.

The Old Town Green District is a beautiful area filled with centuries of memories and stories. As you drive along Park Avenue take in its vintage appeal and lush look. In the center of it all is the heart of the district, The Town Green. With its amazing natural color scheme, the town green is full of life. It showcases pure organic form and provides a resting place for all of us to sit back, relax and take in the view.

The peaceful stream that runs through the six-acre center is the core of the park. This is original to the green and was very useful to the early settlers to the area. Located on the west side of Park Avenue, it balances the busy intersections and traffic. While sitting at a red light all you have to do is glance over to the green grass and welcoming trees and feel more at ease. Just another gift nature gives us everyday.

The Town Green was an open space until 1663 when the settlers decided to fence in the area for cattle. Due to the amount of strays in the area it went back to its original layout and the fence came down in the 18th century. Since then it has been used for parades, a place to hold supplies and a campground during the British occupation. Today, it still sits free and bountiful.
