Weekend Pet Fair At Town Shelter

Activities, demonstrations and big discounts on dog and cat adoptions.

For those looking for pets, or for owners and pets looking for something to do, this might be your weekend.

A two-day adoption fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the the Town of Huntington's Animal Shelter.

Events include live music, face painting, Running With the Wolves will demonstrate CPR for animals; several dog trainers will also offer demonstrations; a dog kissing booth by Long Island Bull Dog Rescue; pet supplies and pet photography.

And maybe the best part — no $95 dog adoption fee all weekend. An $8.50 fee for a New York State license will be required. All adoptable dogs are behavior assessed and spayed or neutered with rabies shots. 

"We invite everybody to join us for some fun – people who already have pets, people who are looking for pets, and even the pets themselves," Supervisor Frank P. Petrone said. "We have many adoptable dogs and cats at our shelter, and we hope they will all find new families as a result of this fair."

About 75 cats are available through the Gratefull Paw Cat Shelter. The League for Animal Protection of Huntington will be reducing its adoption fee for adult cats.

On Sunday the Suffolk County chapter of the ASPCA will hold a rabies vaccination clinic; dogs can be vaccinated for $15 each. Cats coming for a rabies shot must be in a secure carrier and dogs must be on a leashed.

The shelter is located at 104/106 Deposit Road, East Northport.
