Patrick Dillon, a 2000 Whitman grad, won his first round on Jeopardy! night, advancing to the next round on Tuesday.  He won $26,702 as part of the teachers tournament on the ABC-TV game show.

Huntington Woman Infected With West Nile

A Huntington woman was infected with the West Nile virus, but is recovering, the Suffolk County Health Department reported Tuesday.

The woman, who is 50, became ill in October and was hospitalized.

Native Dancers Bring Culture to Countrywood School

The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers came to Countrywood Primary Center Thursday to provide lessons in American Indian culture, diversity and history.
 
Louis Mofsie, Allan Star and Marie McKinney Ponce danced and invited four eager pupils onto the stage to try a dance that involved picking up a feather with their teeth.

Triumph Opens First U.S. Shop at Whitman Mall

Triumph, which turned to Walt Whitman Shops for its first-ever store in the United States, specializes in helping customers find the right item with “tailoresses” who ensure the right fit. 

Mother, Daughter Killed in Fire

A woman and her daughter were killed in a in their Huntington Station home, authorities said Friday.

Suffolk County Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick of the Suffolk County police identified the victims as Reyna Paris, 64, and her daughter, 29-year-old Rosemarie Martinez, who had Down Syndrome. Paris's son, Joseph Martinez, 26, escaped the fire.
