Big Party at Castle Cheers Kids

Huntington charity helps scores of kids with clothing, toys and reasons to party.

The Huntington based charity Toys of Hope entertained scores of children Thursday with a holiday party at Oheka Castle.

Organized and run by Toys of Hope of Huntington, the 18th annual event brought children age 3 to 5 to Oheka for toys, clothing, food, music, dancing, and entertainment that included singing, dancing and good-natured screaming.

Though a few looked a little nervous as they entered the building and walked up the grand staircase,  hugs and high-fives with friendly adults and costumed characters and the firefighters from the Huntington Manor Fire Department, had them into the swing of things in no time.

Some of the characters included Nemo, Dora the Explorer, the Grinch, Ronald McDonald, SpongeBob and other heroes.

According to Toys of Hope Founder Melissa Doktofsky, “if we can make them feel special for just one day, then we’ve helped spread the spirit of the holiday season within the community.”
