Huntington Honors Hispanic Students

Thirteen students from around Huntington have been honored as part of the 19th annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration program.

Students honored by the town and the Hispanic Task Force were Juliana Bedoya, a Harborfields High School junior; Paola Cespedes, Walt Whitman High School junior; Nicholas DelGuadio, a Northport High School senior; Andrew Gonzalez, a Walt Whitman High School senior; Matias Lacroze, a Cold Spring Harbor High School junior; Sebastian Morales, a John Glenn High School senior; Jason Moreira, a Huntington High School junior; Daniela Ramos, a John Glenn High School junior;  Paula Sanchez, a senior at Half Hollow Hills High School East; Nina Riffaud, a Cold Spring Harbor High School senior; Tracey Rosenlicht, a Commack High School senior; Victor Tellez, a Huntington High School senior; and Jorge Velasco, a Harborfields High School senior.

The community service award was presented to Juan Leon, an Afghanistan War veteran who serves as Rep. Steve Israel’s liaison between the federal government and veterans on Long Island. Leon joined the New York Army National Guard in 2003 at 19. He was called to active duty in 2008, while he was pursuing his studies at Farmingdale State University, and spent 2008 and 2009 in Kabul, where he was awarded the combat infantryman’s badge for his involvement in ground combat.
