Town Camps Show Kids A Good Time This Summer

Town of Huntington summer day camp programs offer variety.

Whether it's playing sports or doing crafts, there are many town camps to choose from this summer in Huntington. Maybe a visit from the ice cream man, or bagel and pizza days, sports jersey and crazy hat day, Halloween in July, water day, field trips, special events or learning about marine life at the beach kids should have a good time at camps this summer.

Playground Camp: An organized recreation experience where 130 children guided by 13 counselours and 12 aids participate in sports, quiet games, arts, crafts and special events in age-appropriate groups. Kids may compete with other camps in a town talent show and town Olympics. One group at the camp was treated to a visit and demonstration by local firefighters. The camp is coordinated by director Al Adamo and assistant director Christine Slesinski.

Camp Gold Star: A full-day camp program with an environmental focus located at Gold Star Batallion Beach. The camp includes a nature study, arts, crafts, sports and special events. A special touch tank with snails, mussels, clams, sea stars, lobsters, crabs and various fish from the Long Island Sound is also a fature of the camp. Campers learn how animals adapt and survive in their habitat and how to can protect animals and the Long Island Sound from pollution.

Project P.L.A.Y. and St. John's Camp: Located at the Jack Abrams Schoo, is a full day camp that is offered to children based on an income level criteria. This camp offers a variety of activites such as arts and crafts, sports, special events and field trips. Breakfast and lunch provided.
