Sept. 4: Vanderbilt Event; Orienteering

5 things you need to know today.

1. Normandy Manor Open To Public: For the first time ever, Normandy Manor, the caretaker’s house for the William K. Vanderbilt II estate – now being transformed into the 2011 Restoration Design Show House by a group of 18 prominent Long Island designers, artisans and landscape architects – will open to the public beginning Sept. 3. , which will run through Oct 16.

2. Orienteering Course: A begining will be offered from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Caumsett State Historic Park on  Sept. 4. After learning to use a compass, participants will practice with it in a short course.

3. Eating Disorders Support Group: Join a professionally-led open to people with eating disorders, their families and friends at Huntington Hospital from 10-11:30 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month.
