Second Case of West Nile Virus Reported in Huntington

Town resident fully recovers after suffering symptoms in September.

The Suffolk County Department of Health has confirmed a second human case of West Nile virus in the Town of Huntington for the year.

The resident, who is 55 or older, experienced fever, fatigue, body aches, and rash back in September, but was not hospitalized, according to a release from the DOH.

The individual has recovered.

In August, health officials reported that a resident from Huntington had fully recovered after suffering from West Nile virus.

“Although rare this late in the season, on a warm day mosquitos may continue to be active and biting," said Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Services Dr. James Tomarken, in the release.

Three cases have been reprted in Suffolk County in 2011.

A person from the Town of Islip, under 55 years of age, was hospitalized in August with nausea, vomiting, weakness, and dizziness. The individual is no longer hospitalized and has recovered, according the the DOH.

Privacy laws prohibit health officials from divulging any additional information about the individuals.
