Rush-Hour Trains Hit by Delays

Huntington train delayed in Amtrak East River tunnel.

Update: Power problems in an East River tunnel are forcing the cancellation, delay or diversion of as many as 15 rush hour trains, the Long Island Rail Road announced Monday morning.

The 6:15A a.m. train from Huntington, which was due at Penn Station at 7:17 a.m. was stuck in an Amtrak East River Tunnel. The railroad said the stuck train would be hauled to Hunterspoint Avenue where passengers could then take a No. 7 train to their destinations. New York City Transit is cross-honoring fares at Jamaica (E train) and Hunterspoint Avenue for customers into Manhattan.

The railroad said commuters are experiencing up to hour-long delays in both directions between Jamaica and Penn Station. Some trains are being combined with others.

Monday's problems developed just hours after delays on three lines were cleared after a woman was killed by a train near the New Hyde Park station.
