Photo of the Day: Mall Upgrades

An artist rendering of the proposed new look of the Walt Whitman Mall.

A proposed expansion of the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington is being discussed at tonight’s town Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, currently underway at town hall.

The proposal calls for adding 10 to 12 new tenants, with a maximum of 72,000 gross square feet of leaseable space, on the Route 110 side of the mall. Groundbreaking would take place in winter 2012, with completion planned for spring 2013.

The photo, unveiled tonight to the town zoning board, shows the proposed look of the upgrades to the exterior of the mall.

Who cares what it looks like? Tell me about the new taxes that will come in....or aren't there any? I'm gonna take a wild guess that a tax break is in the offing for more jobs - part time no benefit jobs at that.

Curious about the 10-12 new tenants; comment regarding added retail outlets vis-a-vis NY Avenue revitalization raises a good question.

The rendering cracks me up. 1/3 of the drawing is of people & cars and 1/3 is of the sky. I guess the people are walking under the pretty trellis towards 110. Hope they don't get stuck on the median while crossing 110.

This is a wonderful rendering of the planned expansion of the mall facing Route 110. It looks much better as it will be like more of a lifestyle.
