Oct. 6: Concussion Discussion; Zoning

5 things you need to know today.

1. Sports Injury Prevention Seminar: The Young Professionals Chamber of Commerce, a division of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Dr. Michael A. Kennedy, Board Certified Emergency and Sports Medicine Physician from Expert Medical Care, will sponsor the first Brain Trauma Seminar on Long Island from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Huntington High School. “Brain Trauma and the Athlete” will discuss head injuries in athletes and include a slide presentation titled “On the Field Assessment, Evaluations and Return to Play Criteria.”

2. Huntington Civic Group Meeting: The HCG meets at the VFW Hall, 210 Pulaski Road, Huntington Station, at 7 p.m. Thursday.

3. Zoning Board: The Huntington Zoning Board of Appeals meets at 6 p.m. at Town Hall Thursday.

4. Explore With Mel: This Huntington Public Library imagination play time takes children to the land of make believe where they pretend to be archeologists digging in sand, builders creating structures with blocks, or gardeners planting flowers. The actitivities spark creativity and encourage problem solving, as the children learn about the world around them. Runs Oct. 6 from 10-11 a.m. Registration required.

5. Thursday Football: Because of the Yom Kippur holiday this weekend, and high schools have moved their football games to Thursday this week.
