Northport Chase Employee Fired After Facebooking 15-Year-Old Client

Police said the bank worker friended the girl on the website soon after creating her account.

An employee of Chase Bank on Main Street in Northport was fired last week after he ‘friended’ a 15-year-old girl on Facebook who opened an account that day at the branch with her mother.

According to police, a woman took her 15-year-old daughter to open a bank account at the Main Street Chase location Sept. 5.

About 15 minutes after the pair left the bank, the employee who helped the girl open an account, sent a friend request to the teen. According to police, due to her daughter’s age and the bank employee’s access to her personal information, the mother went back to the bank and informed the branch manager that she thought the employee’s action was “very inappropriate" and informed police.

According to incident report, the employee had been reprimanded for a similar action, with an 18-year-old woman, in September 2012. Upon questioning, the employee also admitted to about eight similar actions within the past 18 months, police said.

While the employee's actions appear to be inappropriate, they did not break the law, police said.
