LI Cares Cites Benefit of Joel Concert

A Long Island food bank said Monday that donations it received through the Billy Joel concert last week meant that more than 113,000 more meals will be provided to those in need.

Paule T. Pachter, executive director of LI Cares-the Harry Chapin Food Bank, said the Paramount, which hosted the Joel concert, had long supported the food bank.  And Joel "has long been familiar with the work of our organization and he has supported our efforts on several occasions," Pachter said.

Police: 4 Smithtown Home Burglaries in 4 Days

Suffolk County Police report that four homes in Smithtown and St. James have been struck by burglaries in less than a week.

A Smithtown homeowner on Grassy Pond Drive South was first to report their home was robbed on Oct. 16. Police said the burglar entered the home through an unlocked sliding glass door to take a laptop computer that was visible through the door and stole jewelry. The property owner was not home at the time of the burglary.
