House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi will headline a celebration of a Long Island gay organization Friday night at Carlyle on the Green at Bethpage State Park.

The gala, which runs from 6 to 11 p.m., marks the 20th anniversary of Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth.

Pelosi, the first female speaker of the House, has served in Congress for 25 years, representing San Francisco, California's 12th District. In addition to Pelosi, the group will honor Andrew Stern, the chief operating officer of NARAL Pro-Choice, Edie Windsor, whose case challenging the Defense of Marriage Act is before the U.S. Supreme Court, and Roberta Kaplan, who is representing Windsor.

The Windsor case argues that DOMA deprives same-sex couples who are lawfully married of the equal protection under law.

LIGALY advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender residents.
