Lost Pup in Lindy

Microchipped border collie mix lost her way in Lindenhurst; last seen on South Broadway, then Montauk Highway and Hickory on June 2.

A female border collie mix that competes in agility trials with her owner has lost her way in Lindenhurst, and was last seen June 2 on South Broadway, as well as Montauk Highway and Hickory.

The microchipped, one-and-a-half-year-old dog’s name is , and she weighs 40 pounds and has a black coat of fur with a white tuft of fur on her chest. She was also wearing her collar with tags when she went missing, according to the flier.

That's according to several sources, including Patti Waite, who posted information and a flier on the Around Lindenhurst Facebook page, Christine Sampson, who posted the information on the Lindenhurst Patch home page Friday night, and Kristin Siarkowicz, an animal control officer covering the Babylon area and fellow agility competitor who shared the information with several others in the local pet realm.

Siarkowicz, who knows Kirek, a rescue, and her owner, Kathleen Clark Schaefer, said the Schaefer’s relative was pet-sitting Kirek while she was away at a regional agility trial. Upon learning that Kirek went missing, she returned and began searching for her with her husband.

Siarkowicz shared the information with local pet columnist Joanne Anderson, who then shared this information along with an image of Kirek’s original and updated fliers with Lindenhurst Patch, as well as with Bonnie Folz.

Folz – whose credentials include Community Canine Training, Th'Reasn Rescues and Pharaoh Hounds, Pharaoh Hound Club of America Northeast Rescue Coordinator – is the person who organized the search for Vivi the Westminster Whippet lost at JFK Airport in 2006, according to Anderson.

Anderson told Lindenhurst Patch that because of lessons learned looking for Vivi, Folz “has put together an incredible lost dog network, and has been instrumental recovering so many lost dogs nationwide.”

The person or person(s) who find Kirek can call 1-888-HOMEAGAIN, since she’s microchipped, or can call 631-944-2625, according to the fliers. . There’s also a reward being offered, according to the flier created by her owner, who lives in Huntington.
