Organization Hosts Community Fair Saturday
Friends of Huntington Station Latin Quarter working to revitalize Huntington Station.
is hosting their annual community fair June 11 from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. in Huntington Station at 1399 New York Ave.
The free event is a showcase for the local talents of the Latino community through music, arts, fashion shows, business and community service.
HSLQ was founded in 2010 by Ed Perez and Xavier Palacios to help revitalize the corridor on New York Avenue and provide social and economic guidance to the Latino community.

Perez said by empowering, protecting, and educating the community, “we can be part of the solution here,” thus, they have adopted the motto, “It’s Up To Us.”
According to some group members, neighborhood tensions have risen in recent years due in part to an increase in violence, lack of social conditioning, businesses that cater to the Latino only population and day laborer sites.

HSLQ hosted a community cleanup day in April which included the sprucing up of storefronts and streetscaping work to help improve neighborhood pride and address some stigmas associated with Huntington Station.
