July 31: Tango Tonight; Folk Trio

5 things you need to know today.

1. Tango: The presents “Tango Under the Stars” tonight with Argentine tango star Nelson Avila and his wife, Madalyn. Guests are invited to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy during the evening. Courtyard opens at 6 p.m. with dance instruction and performance from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

2. Jazz and Reggae at : Jazz brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Calypso Sundays Therapy Band, live reggae on the harbor, 4 p.m. to sunset.

3. Folk Trio: The Summer Festival presents The Refugees. Cindy Bullens, Deborah Holland and Wendy Waldman join voices at 8:30 p.m.

4. Did You Know? Around 1967 the Long Island Lighting Company proposed to construct a nuclear power station in Lloyd Neck, sparking controversy. Angry residents established the Lloyd Harbor Study Group to protest the development. By 1975, the lighting company deserted its original plan and the site was no longer in use. Now the area is recognized as the Seacrest Estates ... it's true, according to Keep It On Long Island.

5. 40 Years Ago Today: For the first time, a lunar rover was used on the surface of the moon by Apollo 15 crew members David Scott and James Irwin on July 31, 1971.
