Fall Festival: A Quiet Tent

Calm space available for children on the autism spectrum.

A quiet tent to help sooth children on the autism spectrum will be available during the Long Island Fall Festival.

Kevin Gersh of the Gersh Academy said children who have been overstimulated by the sounds and activities at the festival will be able to spend time in the tent listening to soft music, or just enjoying the quiet space.

He said people experienced with dealing with children on the spectrum will be on hand to help out.

"The sensory tent is like a timeout room but in a positive sense," Gersh said. Parents with more than one child will be able to bring those who need the quiet to the tent while the rest of the family continues at the festival.

The tent will be open Saturday and Sunday.

The festival starts Friday and runs through Monday in Heckscher Park, Huntington.
