Brewington to Speak at Unitarian Service

In recognition of Black History Month, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington will welcome acclaimed civil rights attorney, Frederick Brewington, as keynote speaker for its Sunday Service, February 13, at 10:30 a.m.  Mr. Brewington has entitled his presentation:  Behold the Arc: the Spirit of Justice in 2011 as Viewed through the Prism of History.  Visitors are welcome.

A powerful advocate for social and economic justice in the Long Island community,  Mr. Brewington  has been called “the People’s Lawyer,” and is a recipient of the Nassau/Suffolk Law Services “Commitment to Justice” Award.

These awards reflect Brewington’s devotion to helping fellow citizens realize the basic rights inherent in the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights.  Through litigation, lecturing, and community involvement, he has maintained a steady focus on such issues as affordable housing, community revitalization, equal employment opportunity, voting rights, and fair representation in government.

Active in community service, his positions have included Board Member terms with the Nassau County Mental Health Association,  the Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives, and the United Methodist Church General Board of Church and Society.

Mr. Brewington is a native of Long Island.  He graduated with honors from SUNY Albany, and was the student commencement speaker at Northeastern School of Law.  He currently resides in Freeport with his wife, Adrienne, a former attorney and recent pastor of the Westbury United Methodist Church.
