Big Night For Polansky Expected, GOP Nominees

5 Things You Need To Know: June 6.

1. Town board meeting tonight: The Huntington meets tonight at Town Hall, located at 100 Main St. in Huntington at 7 p.m. tonight. The meeting is open to all. For more information call 631-351-3030.

2. GOP nominees: Huntington Republicans will be meeting to name their two candidates for the town board at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Thatched Cottage in Centerport.

3. Big night anticipated for Polansky: The School Board is expected to appoint James W. Polansky as superintendent of schools at it's regular meeting tonight, according to the board's website. Polansky would replace John Finello, who is retiring June 30. Tonight's meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Jack Abrams School.

4. Dwyer to discuss AvalonBay: Outgoing Huntington School Board President will be discussing the proposed Huntington Station AvalonBay project at tonight's Huntington Board of Education meeting at Jack Abrams School.

5. Remembering D-Day: On this day in 1944, the liberation of Western Europe began during Word War I when Allied forces crossed the English Channel in the early morning and landed in France, during Operation Overlord. Also known as D-Day, the bulk of the operation included the use of 155,000 American, British and Canadian troops. About 2500 Allied troops were killed during the invasion, according to D-Day Museum estimates.
