The Bellas Hess Estate

Huntington Town Clerk Jo-Ann Raia is proud to announce the opening of a new exhibit on May 7 at 1:30 pm in Huntington Town Hall. Guest speaker Dr. Alfred V. Sforza.

The exhibit features the life of multi-millionaire Harry Bellas Hess who purchased 150 acres in Huntington Station and built his country home in 1911. The house was destroyed by fire in 1958. Shortly after that, construction began for the Big H shopping center, residential homes and Huntington High School. The exhibit consists of images from the private collection of Dr. Alfred V. Sforza and Barbara Kelly Johnson, grand-daughter of Harry and Mabel Hess. Artifacts on display include the guestbook kept in the daughter’s playhouse, an original Hess mail order catalogue, and Mr. Hess’s navigation atlas. A handout has also been created which will be made available to our guests free of charge.
