SUFFOLK COUNTY COHALAN COURT SUPPORTS EAC NETWORK'S CHILDREN CENTER

(Central Islip, NY) EAC Network’s Suffolk County Children's Center held its annual “Bagels and Books Breakfast” on Thursday,
October 10, 2013 at the Cohalan Court Complex in Central Islip.  Judges, court employees, dignitaries and staff were invited to the center for bagels and to donate books to children that utilize the center.  A reading corner was also dedicated to the late William J. Lindsay, Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature to honor the memory and commitment of his avid support of the program and the center.

EAC Network’s Suffolk County Children’s Center at Cohalan Court offers an alternative to crowded courtrooms and waiting areas, and enables parents with young children to attend to their court business. The center is a safe, secure and nurturing environment for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years of age. “The center shields the child from any trauma or stress streaming from a court case.  If we made a child smile and they had fun, then we have done our job,” said Wendy Meyer, Supervisor and Head Teacher for the center. Children engage in supervised free play, arts and craft and have access to a library of children’s books.

Located on the 2nd floor of the Cohalan Court Complex in Central Islip, the center is open daily from 9am-1pm and has served over 1,100 children.
