St. Anthony's Senior announces Siemens Competition Semi Finalist.

On October 18, the Siemens Foundation announced the Semifinalists and Regional Finalist of the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology, revealing the brightest high school minds in contention for the nation's most coveted teen science prize.  St. Anthony's is proud to announce that one of our Seniors has been named a Semi Finalist in this prestigious competition.  Senior Taylor Brown was nominated to the delight of St. Anthony's High School.  This places her among an elite group of only 300 students in the nation.  She is one of only 24 Semifinalists on Long Island, and is St. Anthony's first Siemens winner.

Her topic is:  "Dysregulation of Nova-mediated Alternative Pre-mRNA Splicing in the Orbital Frontal Cortex of Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorders" (I have also attached her abstract.)  Her mentor is Dr. Yin Xian Pan from Sloan Kettering.

The Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology recognizes remarkable talent early on, fostering individual growth for high school students who are willing to challenge themselves through science research.  Through this competition, students have an opportunity to achieve national recognition for science research projects that they complete in high school.  It is administered by The College Board and funded by the Siemens Foundation.
